Last night our Board approved a plan for middle school and high school students to remain in distance learning through January, with the addition of structured opportunities for students to participate in activities on campus like clubs, sports, and academic teams. We understand the impact of socialization and human connection on the mental and emotional health of our students, and we’re doing our best to balance that with the very real public health concerns stemming from continued COVID-19 virus transmission. Our principals, teachers, counselors and staff will work to determine how and when clubs and other activities will be able to meet on campus, with a goal of starting some activities the week of October 12; they are also discussing ways to offer additional in-person activities like science labs, outdoor PE classes like surf and skate PE, and counseling groups and other support groups for students in need. Regarding high school athletics, the Board approved the resumption of off-season workouts and conditioning activities in fixed cohorts of students, in compliance with all relevant CIF bylaws and CDPH regulations. Middle school and high school principals will provide more specific information in the coming weeks regarding clubs, sports, and other on campus activities. California Department of Public Health guidelines will be followed.
