All CUSD parents and students are invited to attend the virtual CUSD Career Pathways Showcase on May 26th from5-6 pm via Zoom to learn about CUSD's Career Education courses and pathways that lead to high skill, high wage industry sectors. Teachers and students from our Career Educationprograms will be available in breakout rooms to showcase student projects, answer questions, and discuss early college credit and work based learning experiences. College ambassadors will also be presentto talk about college and career opportunities that our pathways lead to after high school. The City of Carlsbad, in partnership with is offering an experiential leadership academy with an interactive curriculum and a proven methodology to catalyze high school aged students who are residents in Carlsbad to reach their fullest potential as emerging leaders. Over 180 students have participated in the Carlsbad Student Leadership Academy in the past few years and is looking forward to welcoming a new cohort for the Summer of 2021. WHO CAN APPLY -- High school age Carlsbad resident AND/OR other students who reside in another city and currently attending school in Carlsbad (grades 9-12). This program is at NO COST to you. The academy will cap each cohort at 30 students. WHAT TO EXPECT -- An experiential, challenge-based leadership development program in a peer setting. It is the mission of the CUSD Champions to serve as role models for the youth of the Carlsbad schools and community. These exceptional Senior Ambassadors are committed to their academic achievement, modeling healthy habits, demonstrating inclusiveness and promoting strong moral character to the younger students of CUSD. CUSD Champions consistently model this by living with integrity and making positive choices. Students who commit to participate in the CUSD Champions program must be willing to adhere to the following criteria. Be a senior in the CUSD District. Be involved in extracurricular or co-curricular activities, clubs or electives Be available for public appearances. This may include but is not limited to: visiting local elementary and middle schools, attending school board meetings, local community group meetings, and school-related activities. Be creative, energetic and motivate young people to be engaged in school. Be responsible for making up all missed class work and communicating with teachers. Agree to not have any reference of inappropriate behavior on personal social media sites. Remain in good standing and have positive attendance and discipline. Be willing to engage in activities during school lunch hours. Be available to attend a free portrait session to develop personal Trading Card. The CUSD Champions will be role models and stand together to demonstrate a high level of integrity that sends a clear message to our community about school connectedness, inclusion, and individual determination.
